Statement to the public

In recent hours, many conflicting and inaccurate reports have circulated, placing me in one party one moment and in another the next.

I am surprised by the eagerness and insistence of certain “machines” to fuel conflicts, inflame divisions and obstruct every attempt at reform.

I affirm to the public my commitment never to contribute, directly or indirectly, to deepening my country’s wounds.

My friends and I have carried a hope and a project to serve and benefit Tunisia… For months we have been holding consultations with many political figures and families so that this hope may grow… For Tunisia needs today, more than ever, all its sons and daughters to come together to rescue it from the grave situation into which it has fallen.

These consultations are still ongoing and open to several possibilities, but they have not led to any agreement,

and, God willing, we are determined that their outcome will bring new hope to Tunisia.

The worst affliction our country suffers is the determination of some ill-intentioned people to prolong the crisis and smother every attempt at reform by spreading rumours and stirring up resentment.

My responsibility before God and before Tunisians, especially at this difficult time, requires me not to be drawn into provocations and attempts to destabilise.

I would remind everyone that I am the only one who speaks for myself, and that I am committed to sharing facts and information with Tunisians honourably and responsibly, without intermediaries.

Many of those I have spoken with, whatever their affiliations and political references, showed great concern to offer the best to their country… I call on them to remain committed to the path of reform and to put the country’s interest first.

May God protect our country from all harm.

Your brother, Mondher Zenaidi
